Neubodi Bra Drive | Donate . Support . Recycle
Last Saturday, I was invited to join the Neubodi Bra Drive Charity Campaign in One Utama.
The reason why I joined this non-profit event is that I myself as a woman, know how important a breast is for us to nurture our kids and there is nothing for me to shame about.
According to the National Cancer Institute Malaysia, about 5,000 Malaysian women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, and nearly half of those are under 50-years of age. It's really sad to know that one of the most common cancers for the woman is breast cancer.
And it is very important for us to find out at an early stage to increase the survival rate.
The "DONATE. SUPPORT. RECYCLE" themed campaign is held in conjunction with the International Breast Cancer Awareness month and a lot of celebrities and public figures were invited to the campaign.
An approximately of Rm65k was funded during the "Pedal Forward with Neubodi" programme for the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia's (BCWA) “Hospital Angels” programme.
BCWA's initiative will see trained specialists visit newly diagnosed breast cancer patients to help them learn to cope with the disease in an encouraging and positive environment.
Do you know men get breast cancer too?
During the event, an awareness that breast cancer is "Gender Blind", affecting both men and women was introduced. This has helped to promote a better understanding of breast cancer to the public, encourage early detection and address gender discrimination.
Also, with breast cancer being a “Gender Blind” disease, Neubodi wanted to use this opportunity to highlight that 1 out 1,000 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, and less than 72% of men recover from the disease as doctor’s visit is made when symptoms are more severe - at which point the cancer may have already spread.
Have lingerie you would like to giveaway?
Neubodi's famous "Bra Bank" is back!
Drop-off unwanted or used bras in our “Bra Banks” at any Neubodi stores nationwide from 5th October to 5th November. All the gently-used items will be donated to victims of sex trafficking, enabling their rehabilitation into society as they earn a livelihood selling second-hand bras.
Items that are not suited for donation will be collected by Life Line Clothing to be converted into reusable solid fuel, helping to reduce landfill issues for the textile industry.
Additionally, Rm10 for every PINK BRA purchased from Neubodi's exclusive GO PINK COLLECTION will be donated to BCWA in aid of initiatives focused on breast cancer patients' road to discovery.
Keen to better understand breast cancer or looking for some well-being tips?
During the event, there were experts, guiding and giving tips and ways of self-examination. Besides increasing public awareness that breast cancer is ‘gender blind’, Neubodi and BCWA also try to promote the importance of self-examination and early detection.
More details on Neubodi’s “DONATE.SUPPORT.RECYCLE” Bra Drive 2017, ending 5 November, can be found at Neubodi’s Facebook page, or on its website.
Thanks for reading.
Love,
CLYL.
